What Were You Wearing Exhibit 2023

Over the past 6 months FRASAC has taken part in the 'What Were You Wearing' exhibits in partnership with Fife College and Fife Violence against Women Partnership. The exhibits were located over the four main Fife College campus locations at different times.

The exhibition displayed types of clothing that was worn by survivors when they were sexually assaulted/raped. There were testimonies displayed alongside the clothing which were gathered by the University of Arkansas. The clothing featured is not the actual clothing worn at the time of the assault but similar to the kind of item worn (eg jeans and a tshirt). The exhibition was inspired by the poem by Dr Mary Simmerling 'What I was Wearing' and aims to raise awareness of sexual assault and encourages conversations surrounding consent and sexual violence and the damaging impact of victim blaming.

At each exhibit event, we were there to offer help, advice and support to anyone who was affected by the content. A safe space was available for the entirety of the exhibition for anyone to visit at any time.

Feedback from the event has been positive with many of the attendees saying how powerful the messaged was portrayed by simply displaying items of clothing.

The exhibition was open to students and the local community.

If you attended the exhibit and were affected by the content or have any feedback you would like to share with us, please contact us on 01592 642336 or alternatively you can email us at info@frasac.org.uk.
